Bernd GirodBernd Girod

Bernd Girod is the Robert L. and Audrey S. Hancock Professor of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University, California. He received the Engineering Doctorate degree from University of Hannover, Germany, and the M.S. degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Until 1999, he was a Professor with the Electrical Engineering Department, University of Erlangen– Nuremberg. He has authored over 600 conference and journal papers and six books, receiving the EURASIP Signal Processing Best Paper Award in 2002, the IEEE Multimedia Communication Best Paper Award in 2007, the EURASIP Image Communication Best Paper Award in 2008, the EURASIP Signal Processing Most Cited Paper Award in 2008, the EURASIP Technical Achievement Award in 2004, and the Technical Achievement Award of the IEEE Signal Processing Society in 2011. His research interests are in the area of image, video, and multimedia systems. As an entrepreneur, he was involved in numerous startup ventures, among them Polycom, Vivo Software, 8x8, and RealNetworks. He is a Fellow of the IEEE, a EURASIP Fellow, a member of the the National Academy of Engineering, and a member of the German National Academy of Sciences (Leopoldina).

Brian Cabral is Director of Engineering at Facebook specializing in computational photography, computer vision, and computer graphics.
Prior to joining Facebook, Brian was VP of Engineering at NVIDIA, Director of Engineering at Lytro, VP of Engineering at iKuni (now AiLive), Director of Engineering at SGI and a Group Leader at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. He is the holder of numerous patents (filed and issued) and leads the Surround 360 VR camera team. He has published a number of diverse papers in the area of computer graphics and imaging including the pioneering Line Integral Convolution algorithm.

Gordon Wetzstein is an Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering and, by courtesy, of Computer Science at Stanford University. He is the leader of the Stanford Computational Imaging Group, an interdisciplinary research group focused on advancing imaging, microscopy, and display systems. At the intersection of computer graphics, machine vision, optics, scientific computing, and perception, Prof. Wetzstein's research has a wide range of applications in next-generation consumer electronics, scientific imaging, human-computer interaction, remote sensing, and many other areas.

Dr. Bernard Kress has made over the past two decades significant scientific contributions as an engineer, researcher, associate professor, consultant, instructor, and author.
He has been instrumental in developing numerous optical sub-systems for consumer electronics and industrial products, generating IP, teaching and transferring technological solutions to industry. Application sectors include laser materials processing, optical anti-counterfeiting, biotech sensors, optical telecom devices, optical data storage, optical computing, optical motion sensors, digital image projection, displays, depth map sensors, and more recently head-up and head mounted displays (smart glasses, AR and VR).
His is specifically involved in the field of micro-optics, wafer scale optics, holography and nanophotonics.
Bernard has 32 patents granted worldwide and published numerous books and book chapters on micro-optics. He is a short course instructor for the SPIE and was involved in numerous SPIE conferences as technical committee member and conference co-chair.
He is an SPIE fellow since 2013 as has been recently elected to the board of Directors of SPIE.
Bernard joined Google [X] Labs. in 2011 as the Principal Optical Architect, and is now Partner Optical Architect at Microsoft Corp, on the Hololens project.

Dr. Achin Bhowmik is vice president and general manager of the Perceptual Computing Group at Intel Corporation. He leads the development and deployment of advanced computing solutions based on natural sensing and interactions, branded as Intel® RealSense Technology. He is also an adjunct and guest professor at the Liquid Crystal Institute of the Kent State University, Stanford University, University of California, Berkeley, Kyung Hee University, Seoul, and the Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar. He has over 100 publications, including two books titled “Interactive Displays: Natural Human-Interface Technologies” and “Mobile Displays: Technology & Applications”, and over 100 granted and pending patents. Dr. Bhowmik is a Fellow of the Society for Information Display (SID), and serves on the executive committee of SID. He is an associate editor for the Journal of the Society for Information Display. He is on the board of directors for OpenCV, the organization behind the open source computer vision library.

Prof. Wang is a Chang Jiang Scholar appointed by the Ministry of Education of China. He serves as the head of BIT's Faculty of Information and Electronics Sciences and his research interests include optical design and CAD, optical instrumentation, 3D display, image processing, virtual reality and augmented reality, and human-computer interaction. Wang is a Fellow of SPIE, OSA and IET, and a member of the board of directors of the Chinese Optics Society. He also serves as the leader of the Expert Group on Virtual Reality and Digital Media for the National High-Tech Research and Development Program of China (the 863 Program).

Distinguished Professor by the highly selective “Thousand Talent Program” of China since 2010, and currently serves as the Executive Associate Director of Automotive Research Institute of Jilin University. Prior to that, he had worked for General Motors Global R&D Center in USA as a Researcher, Sr. Researcher and Staff Researcher respectively since 1996. He was a three-time recipient of the “Charles McCuen” Award, the highest research award in General Motors, and a twice-recipient of the `Boss' Kettering Award, the most prestigious award in GM for technical invention and innovation.

Currently he serves as the Editor in Chief of International Journal of Vehicle Autonomous Systems and Associate Editor of International Journal of Vehicle Design, and was the associate editor of IEEE Transaction o Vehicular Technology. He was also the Chair of the Transportation Track of 2010-2016 IEEE Vehicular Technology Conferences respectively, the Chair of Advanced Vehicles and Mobility of 2011 China-America Frontiers of Engineering Symposium, and Technical Program Chair of 2012 FISITA on Chassis Systems and Integration Technology, etc. He holds over 40 US and Chinese patents with another 21 patent applications pending, and is the authors/co-authors of over 100 publications in international journals and conferences, and numerous invited speakers worldwide. His primary research interests are in intelligent vehicles and electric vehicles on sensing and perception, decision and planning, dynamics and controls, modeling and simulation, virtualization technologies, energy management, etc.

Prof. Jingyi Yu is Director of Virtual Reality and Visual Computing Center in the School of Information Science and Technology at ShanghaiTech University. He received B.S. from Caltech in 2000 and Ph.D. from MIT in 2005. He is also a full professor at the University of Delaware. His research interests span a range of topics in computer vision and computer graphics, especially on computational photography and non-conventional optics and camera designs. He has published over 100 papers at highly refereed conferences and journals including over 50 papers at the premiere conferences and journals CVPR/ICCV/ECCV/TPAMI. He has been granted 10 US patents. His research has been generously supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Institute of Health (NIH), the Army Research Office (ARO), and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR). He is a recipient of the NSF CAREER Award, the AFOSR YIP Award, and the Outstanding Junior Faculty Award at the University of Delaware. He has previously served as general chair, program chair, and area chair of many international conferences such as ICCV, ICCP and NIPS. He is currently an Associate Editor of IEEE TPAMI, Elsevier CVIU, Springer TVCJ and Springer MVA.

FengYun's very first product, a stereoscopic 3D camera for the live broadcast market started shipping in 3 months after the inception of the company. Its cinematic 3D-360 camera system and 3D scanner will start shipping early 2017. Dr. Xiao served as chair/co-chair for the IS&T/SPIE Digital Photography Conference from 2010 to 2012. He is also the founding-president of SZADI (Silicon Valley - ZhongGuanCun Association of Digital Innovations), an alliance between individuals and companies developing emerging technologies and applications for VR/AR/MR, AI. SZADI is sponsoring the upcoming International Summit on VR/AR/MR (Beijing, Dec 1-2, 2016) along with the Stanford Center for Image Systems Engineering and University of Chinese Academy of Science.
