Abstract: Dr Lalwani is founder & CEO of Cardinal Robotics – one of the nation’s largest robotic companies with 30,000+ bots deployed alongside partners. Cardinal’s clients include Apple, Pfizer, Stanford Hospital, MGM, Disney and many more + a $800M fund to finance robotic companies.
This talk will go behind the scenes on what customers want, how to build a profitable robotics business, war stories of failures and horror stories of investors. An unfiltered version on the real mess a hyper growth startup can be and how difficult but fun building in the physical AI space is, beyond just R&D and fundraising. Most of the talk will not be recorded and we recommend attending in person.

Bio: Dr. Anand Lalwani is a 2022 Stanford EE Ph.D. graduate, advised by Prof. Debbie Senesky, his thesis advanced high-frequency Hall-effect sensors for robotics and predictive maintenance. While a student, he attended SCIEN seminars and took graduate coursework under Profs. Wandell and Farrell. Anand founded Cardinal while still a student at Stanford and incubated at Stanford Hospital during the pandemic. A serial entrepreneur, he previously built and sold two hardware companies: an IoT venture to Target and battery technology to Samsung. Today, Dr. Lalwani continues to support the Stanford ecosystem as the instructor for EE205 (Product Management for EE/CS), a mentor for Lean Launchpad, and an angel investor in Stanford deep-tech startups.
